Types of Motorcycles

There are many types of motorcycles available on the market today. Some are designed specifically for long-distance travel, while others are specialized for commuting or cruising around town.

Choosing the right motorcycle is crucial to making sure you get the most out of your riding experience. Here are some of the most common motorcycle types:

Cruisers – One of the most popular and varietal bike types out there, cruisers typically have more power than other types of bikes. They can be used for short-distance commutes, cruising, or even as a weekend sport-touring machine with added accessories.

Choppers – Perhaps the most iconic of all motorcycle styles, a chopper is typically built off of an old motorcycle with a newer frame and reworked suspension. They usually feature modified steering angles and lengthened forks, making them an eye-catching ride.

Motards – Once a fringe bike type pieced together by garage builders, a motard is essentially a dirtbike with sportsbike tires, reworked suspension, lights, and signals. They are extremely light, fast, and fun to ride, but not ideal for long-distance or dirt trails.

Dual-sports – A relatively recent, purpose-made combination of a street bike and a dirt bike, dual-sports are commonly ridden both on public roads and off-road. They can range from bone-simple (Honda XR650L) to highly advanced, such as the BMW GS1200 Adventure or the Ducati Multistrada.

No matter what kind of motorcycle you ride, be sure to follow all the rules of the road while on it! When riding, remember to always obey posted traffic signs and signals, look both ways when approaching intersections, and slow down as much as necessary.
